As my client grapples with his underlying beliefs regarding leadership characteristics, he pondered this next one.
Belief #4. The leader directs his team.
This belief is similar to the belief that the leader has the answers. By directing all the movements and decisions for the business, my client was becoming a bottleneck in the operations. He made the distinction between directing versus giving authority.
Distinction #4. Direct vs. Give authority.
By passing the authority to make decisions to others on the team, my client becomes nervous that they will make poor ones. He recognizes that he must clarify and shore up his business' core values so everyone will know what to say yes and no to. He is energized at the thought of being able to let go of making all the decisions with confidence.
