My client whose organization is growing made a list of what he considered to be leadership characteristics.
Belief #2. The leader must be patient.
With this belief, my client commonly felt like time was being wasted, which heightened his anxiety about the future of his organization. If patience equated wasting time, then he needed to re-frame this belief. He made the distinction between being patient versus being mindful.
Distinction #2. Be patient vs. Be mindful.
Being patient implies waiting for something to happen that is out of his control. Being mindful, on the other hand, puts the control back in my client's hands. By remaining present, my client can assess a situation and determine the best way to proceed. Time is not wasted, but is used instead to rejuvenate and recharge.
