I was having a conversation last week with a man in his 20's and another man in his 50's. The older man was sharing about how he went from a life of caring about money and status to one of meaning and purpose. The younger man asked, "how do you know when you are doing the thing you are meant to do in this world?" The older man responded, "I don't know, but I'm sure I'm much closer now." It occurred to me that maybe the risk of trying to find meaning and purpose is that you're never really sure if you are doing THE thing you are supposed to be doing. The reward is that you get to live with meaning and purpose.
