Is My Antenna Off?

I've been giving workshops at organizations for over 20 years now. I like to think that I have a good read of my audience most of the time. However, last week, I think I discovered that I might be way off. As I was presenting to a group of about 30 people, it seemed to me that they were mostly disengaged. They were quiet, reluctant to answer questions, and had the body language of boredom and apathy. At the end of my workshop, I asked them what they would be taking away from the presentation to use in their lives. The responses were amazing. They shared that they want to work on their discomfort with receiving acknowledgments, listening more deeply to their colleagues, and letting go of trying to fix or solve other people's problems. I was stunned and couldn't have asked for better outcomes. So now I wonder if my antenna for reading an audience is off...
