Perfectionism as a Stalling Technique
Many of our behaviors serve us in some capacity. Take perfectionism for example. My clients are driven, high achievers who love to be in control. It's how they've succeeded thus far, and coincidentally is the thing that blocks their future success and growth. The most common excuse is that "nobody will do the work like I would do it". Intellectually, we know when it's time to bring in help. Emotionally, we feel uncomfortable, anxious or worried about letting go of control, so we stall. We focus on how perfect something HAS to be so we don't have to feel the emotional discomfort of giving up control. My answer is baby steps. What is the tiniest step you could take to giving control to others? The answers to this question can get you heading in the direction of getting yourself unstuck.
